Episode 69: Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom
Over 93 days in Ukraine, what started as peaceful student demonstrations became a violent revolution and full-fledged civil rights movement.
Documentaries frequently rate high on our review show and this one is no exception. Winter on Fire lays out the timeline of events that occurred over the three months of protesting that led to the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution. I'm not saying we're avid news-watchers but Gordon and I never even knew about the events that occurred in this documentary and the violent footage that made it to our television randomly for this episode made that seem like a big deal. The Ukrainian people peacefully protested while riot police kidnapped, beat, and shot them with rubber and real bullets sparking periods of terrifying violence. The events resulted in a successful revolution... And war with Russia - A news event that did reach Gordon and Geoff's eyes and ears. American media has to keep that red scare going am I right? After the news, we're rambling about Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and Logan. We all know Mike and Dave is a piece of cinema achievement but let Gordon and I be the first to tell you that Logan is a stupid movie and to stop feeding the hype-fire. We knew that someone was going to ruin our R-rated superhero movie fun after the masterpiece that was Deadpool but we didn't think it was going to be the second one released. Next week we're watching The Boys from Brazil.
