Episode 74: 13th: A Conversation with Oprah Winfrey & Ava DuVernay
Oprah Winfrey sits down with director Ava DuVernay to discuss her Oscar-nominated film, historical cycles of oppression and the broken prison system.
This short documentary is the prequel, if you will, to the documentary 13th. 13th, also on Netflix, is Ava DuVernay's Netflix sponsored documentary about how Donald Trump has been travelling through time influencing the American Criminal Justice System in a nefarious way to imprison all African Americans. We didn't watch it but we did watch the prequel and we'd like to thank Allflicks from saving us the trouble of having to sit through the feature film. Oprah, the interviewer asks Twitter star Ava all about her movie and they do a great job summarizing it within half an hour. 13th is the pinnacle of slacktivist achievement. It doesn't do anything for society except stir shit up and cloud the path towards an actual solution. Be sure to share this episode of Random Reviews and Other Ramblings on social media. Every like, retweet, uptrump, and share will save one child from not having a podcast camp to go to this summer. Also, send us your children. After the news, we're rambling about Louis C.K.'s new Netflix special. Next week, we're watching Tooken, our first spoof to review.
